Profile and security

Your name, your email, your password, and where you are signed in.

Two pages, split on purpose

Profile holds your display name. Security holds your email address, your password and your sessions. They are separate so a control that signs out every device is not sitting next to one that changes how your name is spelled.

Both are under Account in the left nav, and on a phone they are in the account menu at the top right.

Your name

On Profile. It is what your teammates see on the roster and what appears on invitations you send. Changing it takes effect immediately and affects nothing else.

Your name and your email belong to you rather than to any one organization, which is why they are here and not under Organization settings.

Changing your email address

On Security. It takes two steps and asks for your current password.

  1. Enter the new address and your current password. We ask for the password because an unattended session must not be able to move an account to an inbox its owner does not control.
  2. We send a six-digit code to the new address. Enter it to complete the change.

Your old address stays in use until you enter the code. That includes sign-in and the daily digest. A change left half-finished is not a locked account; it is an account that has not changed yet.

While a change is in flight, the Security page offers Resend the code and Cancel this change. Cancelling puts everything back as it was.

Changing your password

On Security. Enter your current password and a new one of at least eight characters.

Changing your password signs out every other session. That is the point of it rather than a side effect: if you are changing a password because you think somebody else has it, the change has to end their access. The tab you are working in stays signed in.

There is no separate "sign out everywhere" control. Changing the password is that control.

A forgotten password

From the sign-in screen, use Forgot password. We email a six-digit code; enter it along with a new password of at least eight characters.

Codes expire, and a fresh one can always be requested. If no email arrives, check spam first, then confirm you are using the address the account was created with. If a colleague set up your account, that may not be the address you expect.

Signing out

Sign out is in the account menu at the top right, under your name. It ends the session in that browser and nothing else.

Account, organization, and what belongs to which

Worth being clear about, because it decides what survives a personnel change.

Yours
Your name, your email, your password, and the watchers you have built. A watcher's digest goes to the person who made it.
The organization's
The plan and the payment method, every property anyone has activated, and the team roster. This is why a colleague can open a property you activated without spending anything.

Removing somebody from the organization ends their access immediately and does not delete their watchers. Everything the organization owns stays with the organization.

Closing an account

Leaving an organization is on Organization settings, and you cannot leave one where you are the only member.

To close an account entirely, or to have your data removed, email [email protected]. What we hold and how it is handled is set out in the privacy policy. Cancelling a subscription is a separate thing and is covered under Billing.
